On the next card, the fun *really* begins! I clicked on the Empty button near the second Index View, creating another, independent subset of the database, and then shift-clicked on SOFTWARE to add anything in the vicinity of that word to my second subset. I then shift-option-clicked on HARDWARE to subtract its neighborhood from my second subset, resulting in the "SOFTWARE and not HARDWARE" search pattern shown in the second auxiliary window at the bottom right of the card.
Notice now that some more buttons have appeared between the two Index Views. These buttons are used to perform Boolean AND and OR operations between the two neighborhoods, simply by clicking on the shaded circles. A click on the button with both circles fully shaded is a Boolean OR; a click on the button with only the intersection of the circles shaded does a Boolean AND.
Look now at the sample card, and then we'll try out some of those more complex operations.
